Your hidden prices are not hidden

Hiding a price on the page does not stop your store publishing it. Here is how to check yours.

If you hide prices and sell on quote, your competitors can very probably read your prices right now.

Most hide-price apps only hide the price on the page. Your store keeps publishing it anyway, and anyone can look it up without logging in.

The same product shown twice. Your customer sees Price hidden and a Request a Quote button. Everyone else still sees the real price of $56.92, published publicly by your website.

Check your own store, it takes ten seconds

Type your website address into a browser and put /products.json on the end, like this:

yourstore.com/products.json

You will see one of two things.

1. Your prices are listed

They are public. Competitors, price scrapers and marketplaces read this, not your product page. Every quote you send is being negotiated against a number the other side may already have.

2. Your prices show 0.00

Some merchants zero their prices out to stop the leak. That causes worse problems. Your pages start showing customers $0.00, which looks broken. Your real prices are no longer stored anywhere in Shopify. And zero is still a price, so if a buy button appears anywhere, on any sales channel, the order goes through and you ship the goods for nothing.

What we do instead

PriceCloak is a Shopify app that moves your real price into a private field only you can see, so there is nothing left for your store to publish. In its place we leave a deliberately huge number, never zero, so nobody can ever check out for free.

Putting your prices back is one click. We also email you a backup file of every real price, which works even if you remove the app.

Not sure what your store shows? Email support@pricecloak.com and we will check it for you.

Hiding prices and the quote form are free. Removing prices from public view is on the paid plan, at $12.99 a month.
